The term biomarkers is used to define biological indicators, chemical or physiological, which are related to a biological response. Biomarker assays are usually available in kit form as immunoassays or enzyme-based assays, although CentraLabS can develop further esoteric assays in-house as required.
Biomarkers are generally used to diagnose disease or make decisions on the likely outcome of the disease, i.e. prognosis. In cases where the early indication of up or down regulation of the biomarker may have a significant impact on the therapy to be given, the precision of the assay may become secondary to the speed of obtaining results.
Understanding the appropriateness of any given biomarker and how you validate, both analytically and translationally, is critical when making informed decisions in the clinical settings. CentraLabS Clinical Research has the experience and expertise to help our customers make those decisions. |
